It's a new world.

Imagine a 50-year old woman in 1950. She was born in 1900. With a life expectancy of 48 years. Did you know that the average age of menopause is 51? 😯

What did that mean for her? Well, it meant that she wasn’t even expected to live past menopause - so there was little social context for her as an older woman & there was little medical context for her to understand and address health and medical needs as her hormone profile changed. Ugh. ☹

What does that mean for 50-year old women in 2019? The answer is complex. πŸ€”

We are modern women living in a modern world. We are smart, educated, sophisticated. We live more complex lives than any generation of women before us. We are informed and decisive. We care about so much - who we love, what we eat, what we do, how we take care of ourselves. πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ’ͺπŸ’• And yet, when it comes to menopause, we don't even know where to start.😟

Everything about menopause feels stuck in the past. Socially, very deep stigma persists around menopause which relegates women to being fearful, dismissive or simply under informed of the whole process. Medically, we still lack sophistication regarding how to understand what’s going on in individual women and how to treat their symptoms. πŸ€¨πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

All that to get to this point: we should have made MUCH MORE progress by now! 😑

And, frankly, we deserve better. #preach πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
